  1. Progressives will gladly take a 45 billion hit to the Pentagon from Sequester cuts. But the other half come out of domestic spending, and Boehner clearly got a win from Obama with respect to them.

    These cuts emanate from when Boehner threatened in 2011 to default the national debt, if he didn’t get Draconian spending cuts the electorate doesn’t support.

    Instead of invoking the 14th Amendment which holds that USA must pay it’s financial obligations – and then letting the Supreme Court rule on whether it in fact supersedes debt ceiling votes in Congress – Obama caved in & gave up over 1 trillion (10 years) in immediate cuts, plus the sequester across-board cuts that applied 3/1/13.

    Then Boehner raised the debt ceiling which always before Obama, was done without demands to cut nor threats to default USA obligations & wreck our credit standing (increasing our deficit as interest rates on our debt go up, no less). See why GOP’ers are morons yet?

    Now in May, the ceiling vote comes up again. This time, the president has to invoke the 14th Amendment and accept NO deals for more domestic cuts that harm working & unemployed Americans, already shafted by the 2008 Bush crash. Enough.

  10. 12/8/12, 32nd anniversary of the murder in NYC of John Lennon.

    Some know the story, also told on the recent PBS Lennon documentary,
    about president Nixon trying to get John deported from America in the early 1970′s. Problem for Nixon being, John and Yoko were the most prominent focal point of opposition to the Vietnam war, which Nixon inherited from
    LBJ, but was 2 years away from negotiating to a conclusion. John was undermining Nixon’s first term like nobody else in America could, and
    Nixon wanted him gone.

    John hired a creative lawyer, who put up roadblocks until Nixon gave up – possibly because he had trouble on the, uhm – Watergate front…

    So John and Yoko were never deported. Now here is the very disturbing part of it, which only dawned on me this anniversary of John’s murder:

    Had Nixon succeeded, Lennon would still be alive.

    Very probably. Set up in London, Tokyo or somewhere where Mark Chapman would not have been able to shoot him to death. Still very much a vocal advocate for worldwide social justice. How’s that, for darkening the day…

    Hi Sammy;

    We are lucky confidence came back after the crash of 2008. Panic set in at investment banks where deposits are not guaranteed, and firms such as
    Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers collapsed when corporations all started withdrawing their cash.

    Fortunately it did not happen to consumers. The retail banks like Chase & Bank of America did not have major runs on deposits, because Franklin Roosevelt passed a deposit guarantee for individuals, during the Great Depression. People knew their money was safe.

    Without that FDIC insurance, all banks would have had depositor panic and massive withdrawals, and the US and probably much of the world economy, would have collapsed.

    I have a friend who votes the party of Bush and Romney, who thinks it would have been fine to leave individual depositors unprotected during the 2008 crash. No problem… ;^)

    Positive Thinking
    At present, those who control the U.S. Dollars are the Chinese. Possessing a large amount of U.S. Dollars, and if by chance noticing that there are more U.S. Dollars in circulation than gold is held by the Federal Reserve, it will be the end of the American economy. If the U.S. Economy falls, many world economies that are attached to the U.S. Dollar will also fall. So to save and preserve the financial economical equilibrium world-wide, the U.S. prints more Dollars, and give a false impression that America has a coin stable economy, when in difficult times many nations find shelter for their money by investing in U.S. Dollars, although in reality, the U.S. Dollar has no real value, but it has a value of trust and credibility, which is the basis of a healthy and strong economy that many believe in, for not losing their investment.. As they say in America, it’s all bullshit, which runs every economy, more bullshit, there is, more credibility has an economy.
    So let us keep that bullshit going.

  17. Balkingpoints view on Israel / Palestine war;

    – Palestine is entitled to full statehood, as recognized by Bill Clinton in 1993. It is the displaced, oppressed party in the war.

    – The cycle of strike/retaliate/strike has never brought about peace, and only empowers Likud – which essentially does not support a 2-state solution.

    – Many moderates & Progressives in Israel, do support the 2-state solution.

    – Hamas – as the PLO before it should have done – needs to adopt a pure non-violent resistance policy. That will sway world and US opinion, and make it impossible for a US president to sit on the fence about statehood & from it perpetuate right-wingers in Israel.

    – Non-violent resistance will not prevail quickly, but it will inexorably. The world will side with Palestine and against Likud. US opinion now is clouded on the matter. It thinks both sides are at fault. Focus on changing that, and you will change US policy.

    Hello!= Ni Hao
    Sammy from Sicily is back to express his free and impartial opinions

    Italy, has had a variety of political leaders, “Prima Donna” clowns, showmen, religious sympathizers, manipulated to serve the interests of the church, and last, and not least, we have politicians that are controlled by lobby groups to satisfy their economic interests..
    But very few real political leaders have served the interests of the people that have elected them.
    Primarily they have safeguarded their own personal, and economic interests.
    Such as a guaranteed high salary, a full proof pension system for serving a short time.
    Or a lifetime honorable membership as senators with full voting rights, which at times their voting can offset important decisions from being passed..
    Yes, Italy’s politicians are wonderful actors, who play their role well, and at the same time leave the naive happy, and satisfied, even if they have left them with their underwear to satisfy their egoistic needs..
    I am sorry for not writing in Italian, because Italian is my third language, in which I am not too proficient in it, and I do not show much sympathy for it..
    My primary language is Sicilian, which is a poetic language that I was born with, and proudly love to use it, but unfortunately each day it is losing its common use..
    My second language is English, which was taught to me at an early age in America, and I find it useful for international communications.

    I try to practice what I preach, I am no hypocrite
    My life is an open book.

    What is sin?

    According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

    Sin is an an offense against religious or moral law

    Only that these religious, or moral laws are not part of the Criminal Code ..

    Which in this case: Religions condition men, and women to be guilty of violating their laws ..

    Please note: That no free democratic nation, has moral laws, because such laws may be in conflict with human rights, freedom of thought and expression.

    With the exception of certain Muslim countries, where there is no separation between religion, and state, people are subject to their religious, and moral laws.

    But the fact is that these laws are applied in many cases, to visiting tourists, and people who live temporarily in these countries.

    In conclusion, sin does not exist legally.

    AND I DO NOT CONSIDER MYSELF OF BEING A SINNER.
